Chunky good looks The 5008 is a great looking vehicle. Well-proportioned and pleasingly chunky, it’s a runner that’s designed to impress, and created to serve. This high-riding SUV sports a newly redesigned grille, which is composed of a series of chrome rectangles. This unified design expands outwards, seamlessly incorporating super-sleek headlights. And while its undoubted good looks should not be ignored, this is a car that offers enormous practical value, beginning with a five-door body that allows easy access. Oh, and did we mention it has roof bars?
Wheel appeal The Peugeot 5008 is fitted with 19-inch alloy wheels as standard, each featuring an attractive two-tone design. So what’s so good about alloys? Well, they’re at least as durable as their steel equivalents but just as importantly, they’re a great deal lighter, which goes a long way towards helping with efficiency and performance.
Choose your colour A crisp Bianca White paint finish (or Mistral Black with GT trims) is applied at no extra cost. That’s not to say there aren’t plenty of optional colours available. If you aspire to a cool look, you might want to consider Nimbus Grey, Pearlescent White or Nera Black. On the other hand, if you prefer the idea of a vivid hue, you might like to choose Emerald Green or Ultimate Red.
Guided by the light The vehicle is positively laden with LEDs, including daytime running lights, front fog lamps, side indicators and taillights. To put it another way, no one will ever have a problem spotting the 5008, even during the darkest of evenings. And just as crucially, LEDs deliver excellent illumination and, therefore, greater forward visibility.
Room for seven As far as the Peugeot 5008’s trump card goes, perhaps its abiding strength is its seven-seat capacity. This makes it a perfect fit for growing families, as well as socially active drivers, and businesses that routinely transport teams of people. There’s plenty of space in the front, room for three adults in the second row and two very child-friendly positions in the rearmost row. And with all seven seats occupied, there’s space left over for a 167-litre boot.
Considerable cargo capacity Admittedly, 167 litres isn’t going to suffice if you need to load up after a big Christmas shopping spree, for example. No need to worry, because with rearmost seats dropped, 780 litres of space becomes available. And with all but the front two seats flipped, cargo capacity increases to a frankly remarkable 2,042 litres.
Take a (front) seat Driver and co-passenger are treated to adjustable positions, with the person behind the wheel also benefiting from lumbar support. Upgrade to the GT grade to enjoy an array of extra features, such as power-operated positions (eight-way-adjustable for the driver) that come heated too.
In-car entertainment Whether travelling alone or with friends, family or colleagues, you’ll always have plenty of audio-entertainment options. For a start, there’s DAB radio, which delivers more than 130 stations in super-clear sound quality. And thanks to the inclusion of AUX and USB ports, you can plug-and-play your compatible devices – or stream your favourite audio content via Bluetooth.
Performance Whether you plump for the GT Line or GT trim, it’ll be powered by a four-cylinder, turbocharged engine. It’s a 1.6-litre petrol unit that’s installed in GT Line models, delivering a creditable 0 to 100km/h in 10.5 seconds. A 2.0-litre diesel engine is supplied with GT trims, managing to improve on that figure. In terms of efficiency, it’s this engine that has the edge, returning approximately 5.0 litres per 100 km while producing CO2 emissions from just 130g/km, which is pretty impressive for a full-size SUV.
Five-star quality Crash-test specialists ANCAP awarded the Peugeot 5008 a maximum five-star safety rating, meaning you can travel with confidence. The youngest of travellers are offered extra protection, thanks to the inclusion of tamper-proof locks on rear doors and windows, and ISOFIX fittings on all three second-row seats.
Autonomous Emergency Braking Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB) is an intelligent system that helps the 5008 to avoid collisions or, at the very least, significantly limit the severity of impact. AEB uses a windscreen-mounted camera and bumper-integrated sensors to scan the road ahead for obstructions. If an object appears too close to the front of the car, braking pressure is instantly, automatically applied.
Remain in lane Lane Departure Warning initiates an audible and visual alert if ever the Peugeot 5008 starts to drift out of lane. It’s at this point when Active Lane-keeping Assist kicks in, gently correcting the steering wheel, thus nudging the vehicle back into position.
