Peugeot 308

The one-millionth Peugeot 308 rolled off the production line in Sochaux, France last month, a few short weeks after its remodelling.

Originally launched in 2007, the updated model boasts a new front end and minor changes to the rear of the car, along with a 25 kg reduction in weight, ultra-low resistance tyres, upgraded aerodynamics and optimised engines.

The new Peugeot 308 also focuses on the environment, with emissions of CO2 at 98 g/km - a record for the small car segment.

In its first six weeks, the new release Peugeot 308 hatchback sold at an average rate of 1,200 orders per day in Europe. Originally intended for European markets, the Peugeot 308 is now sold internationally in almost 100 countries, and has a wide fan base here in Australia.

Its predecessor - the Peugeot 307 - was named European Car of the Year in 2002 and paved the way for Peugeot's continuing success in the small family car market. According to Drive, the Peugeot 307 accounted for almost 50 per cent of Peugeot's sales in Australia leading up to 2007.

While the Peugeot 308 is also available in touring and coupe-cabriolet (CC) models in Australia, the hatchback model accounts for almost 70 per cent of the car's market nationally. The Peugeot 308 is targeting 220,000 sales globally in 2011.
