2011 Peugeot 508 review

July 2011

The new Peugeot 508’s arrival in Australia takes the revered car company from the medium to large car range, with an objective to cause a stir amongst the current crop of competitors. The Peugeot 508 will be available at this Sydney Peugeot dealership in either a Touring (wagon) or Sedan model, prices will start at $36,990 for the Peugeot 508 sedan and $42,490 for the Peugeot 508 Touring.

In the early stages of its release, the Peugeot 508 sedan will be available with a 2.0-litre turbo diesel in the ‘Allure’ model, with the range topping Peugeot 508 GT being available with a 2.2-litre turbo diesel engine. Peugeot has chosen to follow what the Australian car buyer prefers - by not offering a manual. Consequently, the Peugeot 508 Sedan will only be available in 6-speed automatic with paddle-shift

The Peugeot 508 Touring will be available with the 2.0-litre diesel and six-speed – also with no manual option. The strong 1.6-litre turbo petrol engine will be an addition to the range later in 2011.

Peugeot Australia also intends on introducing the new 1.6-litre e-HDi engine to the Peugeot 508 range by the end of the year. Offered in the sedan body only, the model features stop-start function and combined cycle consumption rating of 4.4L/100km. Pricing for the e-HDi Peugot 508 sedan will sit between the Active sedan and Allure 2.0-litre HDi, at around $38,000.

In terms of size, the Peugeot 508 is replacing the outgoing mid-sized Peugeot 407 and the large Peugeot 607 sedan. This places the Peugeot 508 right in the sweet spot between medium and large cars. The Peugeot 508 maintains a sizeable boot space while comfortable accommodating 5 adults in the car.

The Peugeot 508 will compete with the likes of Ford Mondeo, Volkswagen Passat, the Honda Accord and Accord Euro twins and even the likes of Lexus IS250.

It is a premium European car priced like a luxury Japanese offering!
